Book Exchange

I think I'd like to try a book exchange here on the blog. I have a nice pile of books that I've recently finished reading and I was getting ready to sell them on half.com when it occurred to me that maybe YOU would like to read them. One of them, The Book Thief, was given to me by my mother and she said to pass it along when I'm done and that's what got me thinking.

So here's how I think it'll work. I'll tell you what books I've got. If you're interested in one of them, and have a book laying around that you think I might be interested in, leave me a comment. When a match is made, we'll each send our books to each other and have a nice read. What do you think? Oh, and if you see someone's comment about a book they've got and you're just dying to have it, leave a comment saying you want that one - we'll work it out.

Here's what I've got:
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (Highly recommended by my mother. Sad story, but also very uplifting in that whole man-triumphing-over-man type of way. A more serious book than I usually read but I still really enjoyed it.)

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (Great book, good movie that just came out. Great story of love - not just man/woman love but friendship love and sister love, etc.)

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (OK, so she leaves her hubby for somewhat selfish reasons at the beginning of the book. But overall it has very intense and beautifully written life lessons. Deep, spiritual life lessons. I really liked it.)

Miss Spitfire, Reaching Helen Keller by Sarah Miller (Read it for book club, but it did help me think about my parenting skills and how to communicate with my non-communicative son but was a fun, quick read)

Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon (Actually the 8th book in a series, also read for book club. But it made mild sense without having read any of the others and as I recall had a happy Christmas theme.)

Let the exchanging begin!

(Anyone is welcome to join the fun. Blog stocker, first time visitor, family member or friend - whoever. I love to read and think it'll be fun to see what books are offered up to me in exchange. I guess the only rule is that you have to be honest. Don't request a book without sending one in return.)

Ooh I want Eat Pray Love! But what do I have that you want? I have a few I want you to read but that I don't want to give you. :) How about Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. A fun read. About life on a circus train. A few racy scenes you can skip.

What if I want the book back that I'm exchanging and I could give yours back too? Like I'm completely cool with someone reading it but I don't want to lose it from my collection. Since I'm seeing you on Tuesday evening maybe we can work something out. ;)
I would like to read Eat, Love, Pray. I have Magnificent Obsession by Lloyd C. Douglas. It's about a man and his process of doing good deeds throughout his life. It's an incredible read.

well look at that, posting a minute a part and asking for the same book!
Um, I can do Secret Life of Bees. I have started it but never finished. (it was during grad school, I have a lot of books that I did that with during grad school. . .)

Oh no! I didn't think about what could happen if more than one person wants the same book! I'll see how fast a reader Kelly is and maybe she can read it first then I can send it on to Angela.

i use bookmooch.com. It lets you send out your books to people and then you request books you want. You only pay shipping for books you send. And then the person sending you the book you want pays shipping. It's a nice trade-off.

I'm sure you'd find takers for your books.
